Work Shifts

ROTATING SHIFT

Job Description1. Receive report from outgoing tour.2. Makes walking rounds on all mothers and infants.3 Count narcotics with the outgoing and/or incoming nurse.4. Ensure that all equipment is in working condition.5. Ensures that supplies are adequate for the shift.6. Checks code cart and replenishes as needed.7. Perform quality control of Blood Glucose detennination and maintains the cleanliness of the macl1ine.8. Participates in staff meetings and conferences.9. Encourages rooming-in and breastfeeding, e.g. explaining the benefits of breastfeeding infants.10. Provides direct nursing care, i.e. to ante/postpartum mothers and infants in the nursery.11. Updates nursing care plan for mother and infant.12. Report unusual events to Head Nurse.13. Participates in ongoing PI activities.14. Assist in the orientation of new staff members.15. Admit, discharge or transfer mother and infant as per policy.16. Assume the role and responsibility of the Head Nurse in her absence.17. Identify potential social problems and take appropriate action, e.g. collaborates with social worker, shelter for mother/infant.18. Provides postpartum tracking and infant care to mothers.

Minimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
