j-244434Responsibilities:Patient Care:Provide comprehensive care to pediatric patients ranging from newborns to 18 years old.Manage a patient census that averaged 16-22 last winter, with an expected increase to 28 due to additional pediatric beds.Care for patients with medical complexities, including those with G-tubes, tracheostomies, and other chronic conditions.Work closely with pediatric hospitalist attendings or board-certified PICU attendings to deliver high-quality care.
Collaboration and Support:Collaborate with an experienced nursing staff and University of North Carolina residents who staff both pediatric and PICU units 24/7.Support a second pediatric team during the daytime, particularly during the winter when patient volumes are high.Utilize excellent in-person interpreter support for a large refugee and immigrant population.
Procedures and Protocols:Although no specific procedures are required, be prepared to manage pediatric patients with conditions like asthma, bronchiolitis on high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and seizures.Ensure all patients are appropriately supervised and receive the necessary care without the need for transfers to other institutions.
Qualifications:Board Certification:
Must be Board-Certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP).Licensing:
Must hold an active medical license in North Carolina, or be eligible through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC).Certifications Required:
Basic Life Support (BLS)Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)DEA certification
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in pediatrics is required. ICU/CC experience is preferred but not mandatory.Additional Details:Work Schedule:Standard shifts are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with on-call responsibilities as needed.Weekend shifts are required, offering an opportunity to gain experience in a high-demand setting.
Vaccination Policy:Mandatory flu vaccines during flu season to ensure the safety of all patients and staff.
