Summary:
The Inpatient Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions in collaborative practice with physician(s) in the hospital setting. The NP/PA is responsible for the assessment, participation in the development of the plan of care, diagnosis and intervention of the assigned hospitalized patient(s) according to approved protocols. The NP/PA prescribes a variety of modalities to meet patient needs, up to and including continued hospital admission, transfers or discharge and prescriptive authority. Collaborates with the assigned team members to support and adjust plan of care and length of stay for patient care needs. This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work closely with patients admitted to the hospitalist service along with patients in the step down ICU and PICU.
The Hospitalist Team consists of about 8 Physicians and 3 Advance Practice Providers who work collaboratively to admit and manage pediatric patients with a wide range of diagnoses. Responsibilities include admitting patients from the emergency department and direct transfers, obtaining a thorough history, formulating a treatment plan, interpreting diagnostic tests, and addressing any concerns from the patients, families, and bedside health providers. We have a 90 day onboarding process for our new graduate advance practice providers with support as they transition into their role. We have opportunities for mentorship and guidance as you enter into practice. Our self-scheduling system managed by our APP Supervisor allows for flexibility and consistent support throughout your career. Many enjoy the 2 or 3 - 12 hour night shifts each week for full-time.
Education & Experience
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
* Master's Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. * Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred.
Physician Assistants
* Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. * Minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized area strongly preferred.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
* Current Texas professional registered nurse license * Current Texas professional advance practice registered nurse license * Certified as a PNP or FNP * Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) required * Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
Physician Assistants
* Current Texas professional physician assistant license * Certified as a PA-C * Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) required * Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
