Under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician, this position will provide direct primary care for a Multidisciplinary FPI Ambulatory Practice. This practice is focused on the outpatient medical care of patients in treatment for substance abuse disorder. This position requires no after hour on call or weekend duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Orders laboratory tests, x-rays and special tests and dressing changes.* Reviews patient records to determine health status.* Notifies attending physician on call, house physician on call or supervising physician (or surgeon) regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.* Writes orders, including those of narcotics, stimulants and depressant drugs as necessary.
Departmental Essential Functions:
* Regularly provides primary care independently or with attending physician and/or students, in accordance with generally accepted professional practice and JCAHO standards.* Provides and bills for primary care for a panel of patients only in the ambulatory setting relays any problems or concerns to physician. Writes progress notes in patient charts indicating patient status and treatment or procedures performed.* Provides care to patients in "walk in" or "urgent care" status as an essential support role for the practice.* Provides dressing changes as needed.* Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.* Provides care appropriate to the adult patients served in this practice (structured mentoring can be provided)* Provides direct impactful care of patients suffering from the opioid crisis (Interest in team-based care is important.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
* Graduation from a Physician Assistant Training Program approved by the Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required* National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required* Licensure by Maryland State Board of Physicians as a Physician's Assistant is required* Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and BLS by the American Heart Association* Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification is required.
