Overview
The
Structures Division
of
the
H&K Group, Inc.
is looking for a Bridge Carpenter to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes. The Carpenter will support bridge and other structural projects throughout Northeast PA and the Lehigh Valley.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms all work according to OSHA and H&K Safety policiesStudies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard and dimensions of structure of fixture to be fabricatedSelects specified type of lumber or other materialsPrepares layoutMarks cutting and assembly lines on materialsShapes materials to prescribed measurementsAssembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins or glueVerifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s levelErects framework for structures and lays subflooringBuilds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet workCovers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, ad wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt baseApplies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening and decorative paneling to ceilings and wallsFits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, add finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops and kick platesConstructs forms and chutes for pouring concreteErects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levelOther duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills, Education, and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent such as the GED from an accredited educational institution or 1 month of related experience and/or training
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Strong verbal and written communication skillsProblem solvingAbility to travel as required for projectsAbility to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as neededAbility to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience3 months of relevant experience and/or trainingExperience in heavy civil and highway constructionOSHA or other relevant safety certificationsPhysical DemandsRegularly required to
