Job Summary:The

Career Counselor

is responsible for counseling students in all aspects of center life, e.g., personal, and social development, vocational and educational training

Duties/Responsibilities:Documents monthly student counseling sessionsProvides case management to include Assessment, Coordination, monitoring and documentation of student progressAssesses and evaluates continuously those students assigned to them on both formal and informal levels. Provides assistance to students in continuing their education or entering into additional training; and in connecting with community services necessary for successful transition from school to workCoordinates the career management team and disseminates information to all members, organizes the plan to deliver tailored servicesIdentify and address each student's personal issues that may be barriers to successful adjustment and participation.Conduct weekly group sessions relevant to supporting student successSubmits written student reports and evaluations as neededParticipates in the training of all staff, especially in individual and group counseling techniquesParticipates in monthly session with the Center mental health consultantAccount for and document the whereabouts and status of every Job Corps student for each day and time during that student's enrollment.Accurate submission of student leaves in accordance with PRH exhibit 6-1Confers with parents and admissions counselors.Provides coordination and referrals to local resourcesPerforms other duties as assignedRequirements:

Qualifications:Minimum:

Bachelor's degree required. Coursework must include 15 semester hours of instruction in Social Services related area. One year's experience in a counseling capacity or related field. Must hold a valid driver's license.Preferred:

Minimum requirements plus working with disadvantaged youth highly desirable.Knowledge:

Sound knowledge of counseling and supervisory techniques. Must be able to effectively communicate with cultural disadvantages and minority youth. Ability to obtain a state driver's license. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must obtain and maintain valid CPR/FA certification. Good organizational skills. Ability to inspire and motivate staff.PM22
