Responsible for safely setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Accountable for the Safety, Housekeeping, Quality, Throughput and On-Time-Delivery of production work assigned, in coordination within and between departments or shifts. Develops and maintains proper organization and levels of tooling inventories.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures the safety of themselves, transients and visitors; understands how machines work and how to operate them safely; knowledge of emergency stops and personal protective equipment in each work area.Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and veneer calipers.Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling shapers, or grinders.Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.Maintains harmony among all workers and shifts; promotes teamwork;Supports, assists and abides by all ISO 9001 policies, practices and/or procedures.Identifies, supports and implements continuous improvement activities such as set up reductions, running multiple machines simultaneously, etc.Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.Is aware of and abides by all company rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Maintains a safe, clean, neat and orderly work area at all times.Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics.Programming CNC machines in order to check and ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly, and that output will meet specifications.Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.Prepare working sketches for the illustration of product appearance.Provides direction and assistance in ISO9000 related activities.Qualifications

Prefers a minimum of 5 years of machining experience.

Must have CNC programming experience preferably in the machining industry.

Must be able to effectively communicate with outside sources in written and verbal formats.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs and maneuver 200lbs independently.

Must be able to read blueprints.

Must have good Safety, Housekeeping and Quality attributes.

Must have good practical knowledge of the metric system.

Must have practical knowledge of and experience with Lean Manufacturing Techniques.

Must be able to read and complete Inspection Data Records and documents as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED. Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, quality manuals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management and customer's top management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMachinist certification preferred.Valid Driver's License preferred.Ability to become forklift certified with 90 days of employment.Ability to become crane certified with 90 days of employment.
