Position Summary: The Phlebotomy Procedural Specialist performs, plans, and organizes training of the phlebotomy services for the Bozeman Health System including Bozeman Health main campus, BSMC, Belgrade and other off-site Lab locations to support Bozeman Health and community resources to maintain qualified staffing levels. Performs and troubleshoots all Phlebotomy procedures as necessary.Minimum Qualifications:Required+ Associates degree in science or related field; equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.+ American Heart Association BLS required within 3 months of hire+ Two years of related laboratory/phlebotomy experience+ Customer service experience in a healthcare or retail setting+ Driver’s licensePreferred+ Bachelor’s degree in MT, CLS, or Laboratory Science+ ASCP or equivalent Phlebotomy Certification+ Urine Drug Screen Collection Certification (DOT) and Breath Alcohol Testing Certification (DOT).Essential Job Functions:In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.+ Responsible for overall training of Phlebotomy employees working in all system locations including new hire orientation, annual competencies, and on-demand training in response to equipment/supply changes, regulatory updates, safety concerns, errors, or customer feedback.+ Serves as the procedural resource and provides education/training to Bozeman Health employees on phlebotomy techniques.+ Participates in quality management of phlebotomy services.+ Updates and maintains inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy policies and procedures annually ensuring compliance with Bozeman Health policies, procedures, protocols, and State/Federal regulatory guidelines.+ Performs phlebotomy services including collecting blood specimens via venipuncture in a variety of in- and out-patient settings, findings orders, receiving specimens, performing EKGs, performing DOT drugs-of-abuse specimens, and breath alcohol testing.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities+ Demonstrates sound judgement, patience, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times+ Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills+ Exercises tact, discretion, sensitivity and maintains confidentiality+ Creativity, problem analysis and decision making+ Detail oriented, organizational skills and the ability to prioritize+ Standard office equipment and computer applications; MS Office, EMR, internet applications etc.+ Ability to work in a busy and stressful environment+ Ability to work varied shiftsPhysical Requirements+ Lifting, Pushing, and Pulling: Support 50 pounds of weight (patient, assist with bedside needs, etc.) Lift 50 pounds (pick up a child, transfer a patient, etc.) Carry equipment/supplies. Use upper body strength (CPR, physically restrain patient, etc.)+ Extended Hours: The role may involve working for extended periods, requiring sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.+ Flexible Schedule: The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.+ On-Call Availability: On-call work may be required to respond to organizational and patient needs promptly.+ Effective Communication: Proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies.+ Handling Challenging Situations: The role may involve dealing with upset individuals, requiring the ability to de-escalate situations and work effectively with frustrated patients or families.+ Repetitive Tasks: Ability to perform repetitive tasks as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
