New hire experience:
1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of
verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the
requirement, up to a five-year maximum
New hire education:
1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or
higher degree if not required for the position

OVERVIEW
To provide for the safety and welfare of students in designated school crossing areas while in transit to and/or from school; and to communicate observations and/or incidents that may impact the general well being of students.
QUALIFICATIONSHigh School education or equivalent requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageAbility to work well with students, staff and parentsAbility to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with students, parents and staffAbility to instruct students, parents, staff, etc in proper and safe crosswalk practicesAbility to lift and/or move speed zone and crossing signs for proper placementKnowledge of traffic safety rules and school policies and proceduresAbility to adhere to and enforce safe crosswalk practicesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the safe crossing of school children in designated crossing areasAssist students, parents, and staff, etc to provide safe access to and from schoolCommunicate to students, parents, staff and visitors to ensure their understanding of school policies and enforcement proceduresReport observations and/or incidents relating to students to appropriate school personnelRespond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concernsWear orange safety vest and carry MPS issued, red hand-held sign to guide students, parents, staff, etc through crossing areaPlace and remove school crossing and traffic control signs to notify motorists of school pedestrian crossingRegular and on-time attendance requiredPerform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unitPHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional lifting, carrying, pulling, running, and/or throwingMust be able to push/pull up to 10lbs and lift/carry up to 10lbsMay be required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and/or crawlFrequently required to use upper extremities for reaching, handling, fingering and/or feelingMust be able to speak in conversations or other talking; hear conversations and other sounds; and have close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perceptionPosition requires continuous standing and/or walkingENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
