What does a Lifeguard do?
The Lifeguard at the Channel Islands YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas by 10-10 scanningAssist swimmers in distressProvide emergency medical assistance as trained to any person on the YMCA premise asNecessaryProvide support to swim lessons and aquatic programs instructorsTake and record chemical readings set forth by branchKnow and operate pool equipment as required (i.e. lane lines, chair lift)Enforce and educate members about aquatic rules and procedures set forth by branchProvides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with membersParticipating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings#CIYMCAHIGH
Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years oldHigh School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minorAbility to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years of agePrevious work experience preferredMust be able to complete YMCA swim test and pass entry written testPossess a basic-level Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) certification from one of the following organizations: Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, YMCA, Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program™, Boy Scouts of America (BSA), StarGuard ELITE, United States Lifesaving Association (USLA).Ability to transition to Red Cross certification within 90 daysComplete required certifications within 30 days of hireComplete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
