Hours: 24 hours, eveningsResponsibilities:Essential Functions
Coordinates the daily operation of Outpatient Phlebotomy Services, Order Entry and Central Processing as well as assist in these areas as needed.With the manager, gives input and documents employees performance annually within 2-4 weeks prior to employees evaluation date. Assesses employees competency in specific area as assigned by the manager.Communicates effectively, both written and verbally, with staff members and co-workers on all pertinent information in a professional mannerPrepares for special projects or events, such as computer downtime or community eventsEnters and edits ordering information in the computer system on patients and specimens to maintain accurate records of testing and patient billing.Orients new employees and students to the department. Encourages and trains current employees to improve processes, become more efficient and better meet customer needs. Coaches those who demonstrate a need or are deficient in an area to aid in improvement.Prioritizes testing workload and assignments and delegates work to staff within the department. Completes specific assignments and assists staff in completing work when short staffed or under tight deadlines.Reviews, analyzes, maintains and adjusts staffing to ensure all required tasks are completedMaintain Scheduling Anywhere as the software used for phlebotomy scheduling as well as employee request for time off.Work closely with the Manager to streamline operational flow for Nursing Home Outreach serviceNotifies Manager of all instrument malfunctionsEducates patients and staff in correct specimen collection procedures; determine the quality and acceptability of specimens collected by patients and staff.Performs venipunctures and capillary punctures efficiently to obtain suitable blood samples and correctly labels all specimens as stated in policies and procedures. Assists in specimen collection, order entry and processing. Evaluates specimens for acceptability for Laboratory testing.Assists Manager by performing required tasks to meet or exceed the department goals or objectivesInitiates inventory and purchase requisitions for the department, striving to keep expenses within the stated budget and provide adequate supplies to meet the department needsEducates others in regards to Phlebotomy according to policies and procedures under the direction of the Manager.Maintains a safe environment for patients by assuring that sharp objects, toxic substances and other objects potentially harmful to children are not accessible.Assures that the environment of care or services is free of objects which may contribute to the likelihood of patient falls, slips or trips. Makes readily available assistive devices for ambulation. Complies with policies and procedures relating to gait belts and similar devices.Is aware of the increased risk of falls, slips, and trips for elderly patients and visitors, and assures that the environment of care or services is free of objects and spills which may contribute to the likelihood of patient falls, slips, or trips.Is sensitive to the tendency of older patients to have hearing difficulties. Verifies that he or she is speaking with appropriate level of loudness so that the patient hears instructions, questions, and conversations with caregiver, but that offense is not given to the patient as the result of the voice being excessively loud. Is able to differentiate problems with hearing versus problems with comprehension.Correctly interprets verbal and nonverbal response pain management treatments. Takes appropriate action to minimize the patients level of pain by utilizing various pain management techniques and methods.Takes appropriate actions to assure physical security of children and complies with policies and procedures related to the prevention of neonate, infant and child abduction.Is aware of reduced endurance and strength present in many elderly, and provides accommodation for seating during extended interviews, discussions with secretaries, receptionists and other clerical personnel, or when the patient is waiting for transportation.Statement of Other Duties:This document describes the major duties and responsibilities for this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions.
