Summary:Our vision for this position is to help maintain dies in a production ready status at all times, capable of producing quality stampings.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machines tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges and machinists hand tools. Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Computes dimensions, plans layout and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. Measures, marks and scribes metal stock for machining. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper and grinder to machine parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or work table. Smooth's flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, fits and assembles part together and into assemblies and mechanisms. Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances, as well as, heat treats tools or parts. Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product. Completes preventive maintenance work assignments to include work orders.Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.Education and/or Experience: Associates degree from two-year college or technical school. 5 years in field experience and Journeyman's CertificationSkills and Abilities: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Advanced mathematical concepts such as trigonometry, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factory analysis. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Journeyman's Certification through a certified apprentice program.Additional Competencies: Ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely manner with a production environment.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk, climb or balance, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
