Description

Title : Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist, MA-P

Location : FCN Laboratory Services - Float

City : Bellingham, WA - includes travel (up to 50%) to FCN clinics located in Whatcom and Skagit County

Position : Part-Time to Full-time negotiable, variable shifts, float position, non-exempt (hourly)

Compensation:

The full wage scale is $18.25 - $25.55 per hour. We also offer a $3.00 per hour shift differential for eligible evening and weekend hours. Placement within the wage range is determined by the candidate's relevant experience.

Bonus:

Employees are eligible annually to participate in discretionary bonus programs, as determined by FCN, which include the Years-of-Service bonus program, the Quality Performance bonus program, and the Performance Recognition bonus program.

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Services Supervisor, independently perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on adult and pediatric patients. Rotate weekends with phlebotomists and work at off-site draw stations located within FCN clinics. Responsible for phlebotomy and processing of appropriate samples for testing.Prepares workspace with all essential supplies to efficiently process specimens.Maintains organized and clean workspace.Enters required information for specimen testing into the laboratory computer system such as the collection date & timeEnsures proper forms accompany specimens according to FCN Lab policy. Cancels and credits tests that cannot be collected, documents information in the computer, and notifies appropriate personnel.Properly labels specimens in accordance with FCN Lab policy to provide accurately identified specimens.Receives specimens at the laboratory and verifies that the specimen was handled correctly during transport in order to maintain the integrity of the specimen.Processes specimens for analysis according to written protocols.Assists in verifying that lab requisitions for specimens sent to the outside lab contain the correct test(s), date and time of collections and other specimen identifiers.Acts as a resource person. Researches and investigates laboratory-related problems and follows through with solutions.Support the lab by fulfilling the role of mentor, training, and a key resource for all new employees.Completes and reports on special assignments as needed.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

EIB accrues based upon the number of paid hours excluding overtime, with a full-time employee accruing a maximum of 48 hours per year. Benefit eligibility is determined based on the full or part-time status of the position. Qualifications

Education and Experience:

HS Diploma or equivalent, College or Trade school preferredCompletion of formal Phlebotomist training program1 or more years experience in medical office/lab preferredCurrent certification as a Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist (MA-P) with the WA State Dept. of HealthCurrent BLS or within 60 days of hire.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and listen attentively. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Immunization requirements:

All employees at Family Care Network (FCN) are expected to meet and maintain required immunizations as a contingency of employment. The immunization requirements are as follows: Influenza (annually), Tdap (after the age of 19), MMR, Varicella or a verified history of chickenpox disease, Two-step TST or IGRA (within the last 12 months), COVID-19 vaccine completed series and any additional immunizations determined necessary for the protection of staff and patients. Hepatitis B is also required for employees in positions with a high risk of bloodborne pathogen exposure, which includes the following: Providers, RNs, LPNs, MA-Cs, PSRs at all Urgent Care Locations, and all-laboratory staff. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended for all other employees. FCN will cover the cost of required immunizations for any FCN employee. All employee immunizations will be administered by FCN staff except for the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at a participating pharmacy or other healthcare location. Note: A medical or religious vaccine exemption/reasonable accommodation will be considered by submitting an FCN Exemption form for review and evaluation by the Chief Medical Officer.
