Description
Position Objectives: To insure breakdown furnaces and product used in remelt furnaces, bull ladles, and rotary de gas machines are maintained correctly.
Position Profile
Supervision Received and Given: Minor supervision, reports to Die Cast Supervisor and the Lead Furnace Operator Aluminum.Impact of Errors: Bad castings and or machine stoppage and die failure can occur if alloy temperatures are deviated beyond control limits. Failure to properly clean furnaces can and will result in premature equipment failure. Missed operations such as de gas can result in defect product being produced.Mental and Visual Demand: Required a positive mental attitude and the ability to perform repeated tasks. Must pass annual vision exam for operation of company owned power equipment/vehicles.Physical Demands & Environmental Exposures: Must be able to lift and move ingots weighing up to 70 pounds. Must be able to handle extreme heat conditions and handle exposure to various fluxes and gases.Duties and Responsibilities: The furnace operator's duties are to keep the central re melt furnaces clean, charged, and at the desired temperatures at all times. Duties also included the cleaning, charging, and correct temperature control of the 8 holding furnaces at the die cast cells. The furnace operators are responsible for assuring work area is clean and orderly at all times. They are also responsible for up keep of re melt tools and inventory of component parts like Ross cones, carbon lances, and fluxes. They must insure that all metal delivered to the holding pots is properly cleaned by means of rotary de gas. Insure that scrap conveyor system runs as designed without obstructions and that scrap is remelted in a timely fashion. Also operators may be required to operate and do complete set up of aluminum die cast machines and trim presses.
Requirements
Background and Previous Experience Required: Prefer 1-3 years experience but will train the right candidate.
Specific / Technical knowledge Required: Forklift certification by Production Castings.
