Job Summary
The Senior Research Finance Analyst will be independently responsible for post-award administration for several active Principal Investigators in the Department. The Senior RFA will provide both advisory and transactional services in all areas of post-award.
The Analyst will use advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high volume and high complexity transactions. They may review and guide others in the review of financial and administrative management requirements of research contract and grant proposals, awards, and / or transactions to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor policies. They will work independently to assess complex grant, contract and subcontract transactions where analysis requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. They may be eligible for delegated signature authority and may review and sign transactions for less experienced staff. The Analyst may serve as a technical specialist in a particular area, such as federal contracts, state contracts, subcontracts, or information systems.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. Department Description
The Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics is a large teaching and research department within the School of Medicine. The department offers graduate studies in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cell Biology,Developmental Biology, Systems Biology, and Genetics degree programs, in addition to providing courses for medical, dental, and pharmacy students. Each program includes interdepartmental faculty representing: the CancerCenter, Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiology, Pediatrics, Microbiology, Pathology, Anatomy, Psychiatry and Neurology departments, as well as our own. In addition to offering course work, the department's other main goal is to provide an environment where outstanding research in diverse areas of interest is conducted. A close, collaborative spirit among faculty facilitates a research atmosphere that is both productive and exciting. Moreover, many colleagues from other departments have joint appointments with Biochemistry, which forms an added active pool of investigators with whom we closely collaborate.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / trainingMinimum 5 years of related experienceAbility to manage high volume and complex transactionsAbility to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reportingDemonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reportsAbility to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areasMaintains knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies. Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administrationDemonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principlesAbility to interpret policy for others
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environmentAdvanced knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreementsFull knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administrationAdvanced knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniquesAdvanced ability to create and train grant writing and other communications skills in a variety of styles to ensure securing grant funding required
