The City of Lansing Parks & Recreation Department is looking for a Lifeguard. This position is responsible for providing a safe, enjoyable experience for the public by maintaining a clean presentation of both the Hunter Park Pool and Alfreda Schmidt Southside Community Center Pool. This is a TEA (Temporary Employment Agreement) contractual position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Attend all pre-season training sessions, both in person and onlineConsistently and politely enforce city polices, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using the swimming facility.Attend all staff trainings and meetings through the season, including four (4) hours of required in-service training per month.Be attentive for possible incidents or accidents that may occur in the water or on the deck.Maintain order in the pool and take necessary action to prevent possible trouble or injury.Correctly size any person in need of a life jacket, record the check out, ensure there is collateral for the checkout of the life jacket, and educate patrons on life jacket rules. Check life jackets in, record the check in, and return collateral to the patron.Conduct swim tests, as needed.Check out basketballs to patrons, record the check out, ensure there is collateral for the check out of the basketball. Check basketballs in, record the check in, and return collateral to the patron.Provide first aid to patrons and staff members as needed. Report everything, either on an accident/incent form, first aid log, or employee accident/incident form; be sure you know which form to use for every incident.Report first aid supply shortages to the pool manager or Aquatics Coordinator.Know all EAPs for the pool and building.Clean locker rooms, including toilets, sinks, etc., splash pad, and pool deck daily.Contact Pool manager or Aquatics Coordinator if assistance in maintain discipline of participants is needed.Report observed or potential physical hazards and unsafe conditions at the pool to the Pool manager on duty.Complete all incident, accident, and rescue reports, as necessary.Other duties, as assigned.Minimum Requirements include:

Must be at least 15 years old.Swim continuous 150 yards, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, and swim 50 yards without stopping.Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, pick up a 10-pound object, swim back to starting point on the back, climb out of the pool without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds.Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time.Lift 150 pounds, with assistance.Work in extreme heat and extreme cold temperatures.Recognize an emergency and act upon it.Be available days, evenings, weekends, and holidays for a minimum of 20 hours per week (in the summer season only)Required Certifications:

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification r.17 or r.24American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens CertificationMI Mandated Reporter Training
