Battelle's CBRNE Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as a
Chemist III . This position is located in
Columbus,
Ohio .
Responsibilities
Senior level spectroscopist with a broad background in characterizing a wide variety of samples, operating and designing experiments, interpreting results, providing recommendations to technical team, preparing reports and communications.Assist in identifying appropriate spectroscopic approach for diverse set of environmental samples, to include small particle analysis and/or trace particle analysis.Design and conduct experiments utilizing a variety of spectroscopy techniques (for example, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive spectroscopy, near-IR, FTIR (with ATR, total reflectance, IR and Raman microscopy, ); determine appropriate acceptance criteria, conduct technical data reviews, analyze and interpret data collected, form conclusions, and write/review technical correspondence and technical reports.Troubleshoot complex laboratory problems; provide new perspectives to challenging problems.Contribute to technology development research to improve existing capabilitiesDevelop innovative testing and/or analysis methods to improve results and/or the efficiency of the process.Collaborate across job functions and scientific disciplines to adjust analytical approaches accordingly.Key Qualifications
PhD degree with 5+ years of spectroscopy experience or Masters degree with 10+ years of spectroscopy experience.Hands-on experience with FTIR, Raman, fluorescence, XPS, and other traditional and emerging spectroscopy techniquesExperience with common spectroscopy data processing software.Must understand the principles of a broad range of spectroscopy techniques and be able to apply this knowledge to help teams identify appropriate approaches for the identification of trace levels of materials in environmental samples.Proficient in standard wet chemistry and particle picking sample extraction and cleanup techniques.Incumbent must successfully pass medical screening, including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) and work with highly hazardous materialsMust be US CitizenIncumbent will be subject to a government security investigation and must have the ability to obtain/maintain a security clearancePreferred Qualifications
