Job Title: Transcriptionist

Location: Lancaster, PA

1.0 FTE, full time. 1st shift. 9 A - 5:30 P, Monday - Friday. No on-call, holiday or weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists pathologists in all phases of the documentation and reporting of pathological findings, including transcription of complex pathological diagnostic reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:Evaluates each pathology case for correct and complete documentation/history, including requests from pathologists for additional information as needed.Transcribes dictation into pathology report. Formats surgical pathology report from the requisition form, the pathologist assistant's gross description and from the pathologist's dictation of a diagnosis.Pulls previous case reports and slides as requested by Pathologist or other agents.Screens and handles telephone interactions for eight (9) pathologists including reading complex surgical pathology reports, coordinating requests for frozen section exams in O.R., and medical-legal requests. Screens and handles telephone communications for the Laboratory Administrative staff in the absence of the Administrative Secretary.Maintains records and files permission forms, certificates for cremation, mass burial, autopsy permission, and legal requests. Evaluates each form for completeness and correctness.Evaluates and prepares requests, specimens slides, and documentation for selected send-outs.Handles documentation, resulting, and distribution of consultation reports and specialized testing.Manages the Extra Departmental Review documentation for pathologists.SECONDARY FUNCTIONS :

The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

Maintains sufficient supply of office supplies through weekly orders for the pathology office. Reports need for off-line materials to appropriate personnel.Detects and records data for quality assurance monitoring for Pathology department.Coordinates, handles and accessions requests for autopsy both in-house, and at contracted autopsy facility.Other duties as assigned.JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diplomaDegree from a medical secretarial school or equivalent experience.Typing 60-65 words per minute minimum.One (1) year experience as medical secretary/medical transcriptionist with complex medical terminology and professional interpersonal/telephone communication skills.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two (2) or more years medical secretary/medical transcriptionist with surgical pathology terminology and professional interpersonal/telephone communication skills.
