WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Looking to gain hands on experience working with a major transit system?

The GIS Intern reports directly to the GIS Coordinator. This position will support the development and maintenance of CapMetro's Geospatial Platform (ArcGIS & FME). The internship is a part-time position with an expected 15 - 20 hours per week. This is a primarily remote position. Local candidates only.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Provide support for the development, maintenance, training, and troubleshooting of GIS and related systems.Design and configure maps and applications within ArcGIS Enterprise.Update information for items, maps, and applications in ArcGIS Enterprise.Assist in conducting training sessions for agency GIS users on the GIS Portal.Maintain and update location data in ArcGIS Enterprise.Optionally collect field data within the Central Texas region.Contribute to the Safety Management Systems (SMS) by adhering to safety policies, incorporating safety into all actions, and reporting any safety or security concerns.Perform additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU BRING

Currently enrolled in a degree program at a college or university in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related studies with the completion of a minimum of two (2) courses in GIS studies.Experience with Esri's ArcGIS Pro 2.9 or newer is required.Experience with Esri's ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online/Portal and ArcPy, preferred.Experience with Safe's Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) Desktop preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) preferred.Good oral and written communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to coordinate several diverse job requirements and projects.Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. This position works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for managing employees performing work of a complex nature. Incumbent must be able to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use and horizontally. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment. Incumbents must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions. position, the incumbent is expected to work in the office as needed. There will be access to touchdown/collaboration spaces when on site. Must be in-office for socialization, strategic collaboration, supervision, oversite, and accountability as needed.
