The Department

Strategic Advisers, LLC is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity's retail, workplace, and institutional distribution channels. For more than 30 years Strategic Advisers has specialized in the design, construction, and management of asset allocation solutions, as well as the methodologies for many of Fidelity's investment planning tools, to help investors reach their financial goals. With over $800 billion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third-party investment vehicles, the Strategic Advisers team of investment professionals' constructs and manages asset allocation portfolios for more than 2 million customer accounts.

Quantitative Research

SAI's Quantitative Research analysts work either directly on an asset class or product investment teams, the central quantitative research group, or on the risk team. The team consists of ~20 analysts located in Boston, Dublin and Denver and partners with the broader SAI investment teams to deliver superior risk-adjusted performance for the wide range of investment offerings managed by SAI. The team's work includes risk modeling, portfolio construction analysis, the creation of smart beta libraries/alpha models, investment strategy methodology development and implementation support.

The Position

You will conduct research as a member of the Fidelity Personalized Planning & Advice (FPP&A) multi asset class investment team. The FPP&A investment team manages over $130B of assets on behalf of more than 9,000 401k plans. You will contribute to the investment team's successes with thorough analysis and investment recommendations that are based on quantitative analysis.

Your primary objective will include researching and bringing innovative solutions to bear on our existing quantitative investment methodologies to enhance performance and deliver superior outcomes for the workplace managed account clients. A significant focus of your work will also be on portfolio construction and optimization to deliver optimal allocation and fund selection for workplace managed accounts.

You should enjoy working within a team environment and are expected to offer strong communication, programming, and analytical skills. You should be able to translate portfolio management requirements into quantitative projects and present the results in an investment-oriented and intuitive way.

Given SAI's rapidly growing business, this role will evolve dynamically and requires an ambitious spirit. You will work at Fidelity's headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts and will report to the team lead.

Responsibilities

Work within the FPP&A multi asset class investment team to improve risk-adjusted performance and to help our clients to achieve their investment goals:Collaborate with portfolio managers and broader investment team to enhance our investment framework for managed account clients.Enhance fund-level alpha models that will impact the portfolio positioning under different market environments.Evaluate asset/factor allocation and rebalancing strategies under different market and economic conditions.Understand, maintain, and improve infrastructure supporting our investment process.Collaborate with the broader research and investment groups.Be able to clearly communicate and rationalize specific recommendations.Skills/Knowledge

Very solid programming and database skills, e.g., R, Python, SQLStrong communication and presentation skills, particularly in translating complex quantitative analysis into meaningful and applicable investment solutionsDeep knowledge of portfolio construction, optimization, and factor allocation across asset classesExperience in applying advanced Machine Learning (ML) techniques to develop investment models is a plusKnowledge of capital markets dynamicsDemonstrated experience conducting statistical time-series data analysis and backtesting investment modelsExperience in the use of financial tools like Bloomberg, FactSet, or other portfolio analysis and asset allocation tools would be beneficialQualifications

5-7 years of experience in quantitative investment research (e.g. portfolio optimization, multi-factor, and asset allocation) and portfolio construction roles, specifically for a multi asset class investment processProven ability to conduct rigorous independent empirical research and a willingness to identify and present new research ideasPhD/MS in a related field (Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, etc.)CFA is a plusValues
