PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Accounting Manager will assist in overseeing all accounting functions for NEBF Investments. Additionally, this role will manage accounting operations, liaising with internal audit, simplifying and automating processes, and handling special projects. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of investment accounting, the ability to develop and implement daily accounting processes, and possess strong problem solving and communications skills. This role will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will manage a team of two accounting professionals. SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE: Ensure accounts, ledgers and financial reports comply with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Review the accounting and investment related activity prepared by the custodian; serve as the point of contact for the custodian and work to maintain and improve all accounting processes with the custodian. Coordinate with external auditors and NEBF administrative office, respond to audit inquiries and ensure timeliness of year end audit deliverables. This includes, investment lead/roll forward, fair value hierarchy, and supporting footnote disclosure schedules. Prepare, review, and approve financial statements, month-end entries and accounting package for accuracy and timely distribution to management. Prepare year-end reporting schedules used to complete Form 5500 financial disclosure requirements tax filings and payments remitted to Federal, State, and Local taxing authorities. Prepare mid-year unaudited financial statements to satisfy debt covenant requirements. Prepare financial reporting schedules and responses to Department of Labor (“DOL”) inquiries, as needed. Assist with the annual budget forecasting of costs incurred by the investment office, which includes preparing budget to actual variance analyses and providing explanations for significant variances. Assist with federal and state filing of unrelated business income tax (“UBIT”) forms (i.e., 990-T) prepared by the Plans’ tax advisor, including the payment of taxes due. Ensure compliance with business filings required by local government. Review and update Accounting/Finance SOPs to clarify roles and responsibilities, coordinate with the COO to ensure a balanced separation of duties. Lead team members to develop skills and increase their knowledge base; strengthen internal communications with staff; promote process efficiency and accuracy across functions. Recommend and implement improvements for accounting current best practices to increase efficiency and accuracy. Assist with the implementation of new business technologies and software as needed. Ad-hoc projects as assigned by the senior leadership team. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting; CPA license, a plus. Minimum five years of investment accounting experience required. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of investment accounting. Ability to work well with others, anticipate impacts of workload/issues to team deadlines and have a positive work attitude. Advanced computer skills, Office 365.
