Optical Technician

Graystone Eye is looking for an individual who is willing to serve our patients with one vision in mind:Achieving ExemplaryClinical OutcomesProviding anUnparalleled Experience for Patients, Employees and FamiliesJOB SUMMARYThe Optical Technician ophthalmic eyeglass prescriptions and fits and adapts lenses and frames by performing the duties detailed below.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.•Stacks, straightens and cleans frame boards as necessary.•Determines client's current lens prescription, when necessary, using a lensometer or lens analyzer and the client's eyeglasses.•Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.•Under supervision, assists client in selecting frames according to style and color, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.•Under supervision, measures client's bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes.•Under supervision, prepares work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.•Under supervision, verifies finished lenses are ground to specification.•With supervision, heats, shapes, or bends plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit the client.•Instructs clients in adapting to, wearing, and caring for eyeglasses.•Evaluates and does preliminary assessments of problems with patient's eyeglasses.•Sells optical goods such as binoculars, plano sunglasses, magnifying glasses, and low vision aids.•Repairs damaged frames as well as screws, nose pads and temple pins. Performs hinge repairs and holders.•Computes amount of sale.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE•High School education•Optical-related experience preferred•Certification within one year of hire to retain positionESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES•Strong communication and interpersonal skills•Problem-solver with analytical skills•Personable; empathetic with patient's needs and concerns•Well-organized with attention to detail•Ability to work as a team member•Demonstrated computer literacy•Willingness and ability to travel to other Graystone Eye locationsLANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write sample correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organizationMATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.REASONING ABILITIESAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.
