JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist or Program Specialist, the Speech and Language Pathology Assistant will perform services and consultation with teachers at a school site, provide activities designed to develop language skills and articulation skills, including speech production, vocalization and social pragmatics in students with speech/language disorders. Other duties may include administrative work, meetings, and collaborations with staff and parents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSConduct speech-language screenings using a variety of screening tools and techniquesFollow documented therapy plansSupport the SLP with contacting families to arrange IEP meetings.Document student progress in IEP systemPrepare therapy materials for use in pullout small group setting or in classroom settingAdapt or modify instructional materials as determined by student need and abilities for teacher-use in the classroomConsult with general ed teachers to co-plan instructional materials or implement strategiesTrack performance data using progress monitoring tools and report progress on IEP goalsAssist with IEP progress monitoring under the supervision of the SLP.Creates and maintains safe, positive environment for studentsCollaborates with members of IEP Team, Special Education team and School site teamsDemonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behaviorPerform other related duties as required and assignedAdditional:

Minimum educational level:

Associate's Degree and completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant ProgramRegistration as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with the State of CaliforniaExperience required:

1+ year working with students with special needs in an educational settingValid California Driver's LicensePhysical requirements:

Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.Communicating with others to exchange information.Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.Work authorization requirements:

Clear the Department of Justice background screening.Authorized to work in the United States.Provide health (TB) clearance (renewed every four years).WORK ENVIRONMENT
