Introduction

Prince William County's Department of Development Services is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Building Code Enforcement Inspector.

The Department of Development Services promotes staff and customers working in a partnership to ensure compliance with building regulations. We are looking for customer-service minded individuals for our Code Enforcement Branch to provide high quality service to our customers while embracing their essential role as "first preventers." About This Role:Perform code enforcement commercial and residential inspectionsConduct thorough investigations of received complaints (to include unpermitted work, lack of inspections, occupying without a valid certificate of occupancy, etc.)Provide guidance, and education outreachWork with the Commonwealth Attorney and Testify in CourtMinimum Requirements:High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related (law enforcement, code enforcement, inspections, or a similar field) experience.

Preferences:

5 years' experience in law enforcement, code enforcement, inspections, or a similar fieldFamiliarity with monitoring, investigating, and enforcing applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinancesExperience handling public and internal agency inquiries regarding applicable regulations, concerns, and questionsExperience conducting field inspectionsFamiliarity with the legal system, case preparation and court testimonyWork Schedule:This position works a standard Monday-Friday schedule, working 37.5 hours per week.This is a telework eligible position that may revert to in-office scheduling if business needs change. This position has the ability to telework 1-2 days per week after an initial probationary period or when agreed upon with supervisor.

Special Requirements:Valid Driver's License - successful completion of a DMV CheckPre-Employment PhysicalMust become certified as a technical assistant to the Building Official

Must obtain residential building inspections certification and commercial building inspection certification within 18 months.Must obtain residential combination (electrical, plumbing, mechanical) inspection certification within 36 months.Starting Salary Range:$31.96 - $44.30 Hourly ($62,322 - $86,385 Annually)
