Job Summary
This position is responsible for instructing individuals and groups in the sport of ice skating.
Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.
Pay Grade
F1 - DOEMinimum Requirements
Less than one year of experience in a similar position in an employed or volunteer role, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Minimum of three (3) years of ice skating experience with the ability to demonstrate proficient skating skills sufficient to instruct at class level assigned.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical.
Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.
Duties/Responsibilities
Develops and delivers lesson plans for individual and group instruction; educates parents and skaters on proper equipment and skating techniques; evaluates students according to ISI standards.Assists the Skating Program Facilitator in implementing skating shows, competition and camps.Assists in promoting skating instruction programs to the public.Registers students for the Learn to Skate program.Maintains program files and records.Schedules ice time for classes and freestyle lessons.Creates group and solo skating programs for shows and competitions; provides guidance to parents and students in regards to costumes, props, etc.Provides customer service; collects fees and other payments.Performs related duties.
Temporary and on-call employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee.
Alaska Supplemental Benefits System:
The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $132,900.

I understand that the schedule for this position will vary based on operational needs and the hours will be limited to less than 30 per week and 1,000 per 12 month period. I further understand this is an on-call position that receives no benefits and no guarantee of hours.
