Position Purpose:

Under limited supervision, manages, coordinates, and evaluates the care provided in the assigned area of responsibility . is responsible for the technical and administrative operations. Maintains oversight of day-to-day operation to include, but not limited to patient testing, timely reporting of results, quality control/standards, policy/procedure, performance improvement, scheduling, staff development, equipment, supplies, student education/training, maximizing efficiency, minimizing resource utilization, and fiscal responsibility. Supports operations and services to facilitate maximum quality, cost efficiency and productivity. Is instrumental in promoting quality of life for patients, personnel and the community served.

What you will Do:

Works schedules to include flex staffing as appropriate to support overall operational goals.

Interviews, hires, evaluates, disciplines, trains and develops staff related to job performance.

Assures that Policy and Procedure Manuals reflect current practice and are consistent with industry standards of care/protocol.

Assures quality/efficiency by making recommendations to the Medical Director, Laboratory Director, and the Laboratory Leadership Team (LLT) related to medical, administrative, and operational matters.

Is responsible for implementing new procedures as indicated to enhance patient care, revenue, and marketability of department.

Serves as a technical resource:

assures QC records are reviewed and meet standards.

educates associates/MT students.

monitors staff performance to assure quality.

assures that instrument maintenance is performed/documented.

Maintains and/or performs preventive maintenance procedures for all equipment.

Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing appropriate lines of authority; proposes resolutions for variances or unacceptable outcomes.

Delegates daily operational functions to include:

supply inventory.

procedural research

sectional safety

staff development, cross training, student and new employee training/education to include competency documentation.

Demonstrates general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (Word, Excel, PathNet, PowerChart, HealthQuest). Is responsible for: PathNet Data Base maintenance for the section, timely updates to DB as indicated, new procedure build, validation testing, code upgrade support and assuring that billing is completed as appropriate.

Is responsible for timely review of proficiency testing results and assists in the preparation for certification inspections and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

BA or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, Microbiology Molecular Biology, Genetics, or health-related science. Graduate degree preferred.

Must be a registered Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or similar registration/certification.

Must have at least three (3) years current experience as a Medical Technologist in an acute care setting.

Must meet CLIA standards for high complexity testing.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, presentation skills, advanced analytical skills, be well organized and maintain a highly professional manner and appearance.

Strong interpersonal, consultative and relationship building skills to initiate and develop productive collaborative partnership with all levels of leadership across the organization. Ability to effectively influence results, garner support and tactfully manage complex relationships within and across the organization. Extremely high level of diplomacy and tact are required. Ability to read the subtle nuances of situation and react/plan accordingly.
