Critical care RNs (ED, ICUs, PICU) will have additional interpretation tests, including those from the STEMI and Procedural Sedation curriculums.•Bed Count: 24 beds (capacity up to 32)•Ratios: 1:1 and 1:2•Intensivist Coverage: On the unit from 7 AM to 5 PM; on-call after hours•Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS. IABP, CRRT, and ICP certifications are not required but are a plus.•EMR System: Cerner (required)•Additional Equipment: Pagers linked to the call light system and internal SpectraLink phones•Unit Orientation: 2 shifts on the unit, plus orientation to the East tower (4E, 5E, & 6E) and West tower (4W & 5W) for floating purposes•Nurse Aides: Not available•Charge Nurse: Yes, rarely takes patients. There is also a "Free Resource Nurse" who may take patients if staffing needs require it. The charge nurse responds to all rapid responses.•Shifts/Hours: 12-hour shifts; 7 AM - 7:30 PM and 7 PM - 7:30 AM•Breaks: 1/2 hour break (clock-out) and 3 x 15-minute breaks per shift (as per CA law)•Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend or the equivalent of 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (e.g., 2 weekends in a row, then off for 2 weekends).•Scrub Color: Navy blue. If wearing a scrub jacket, it must also be navy. Undershirts must be navy, white, or black.•Telemetry: Spacelabs Monitoring; 24/7 monitor techs on the unit who also assist with secretarial tasks. Nurses are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips. Note: Telemetry monitors are also in patient rooms.•Ventilation: Yes, maintained by respiratory therapy.•IV Team: Not available•Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7•Pharmacy: 24/7 in the hospital; dedicated pharmacist on the unit for 12 hours on weekdays and 6 hours on weekends. Omnicell system in use.•Types of Patients: Includes respiratory failure, sepsis, AMI, ARDS, GI bleeds, CABG (fresh hearts handled by trained staff), TAVR, Impella, vascular surgeries, neuro surgeries, and CVAs. Neuro experience is a plus, as a Neuro ICU is planned for 2018. Nurses participate in multidisciplinary rounds.•Medications: All cardiac and vasoactive drips, conscious sedation, etc.•Floating: Must be willing to float to any MedSurg/Tele units (4E, 4W, 5E, 5W, & 6E).
