GENERAL FUNCTIONS:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.The Before and After School Care (Y BASE) & Camp Assistant Director is responsible for the implementation of high-quality Y BASE and Camp programming. This position will be responsible for quality facilitation of innovative curriculum and activities, training, supervision, and coaching staff to ensurethat participant's development occurs in a fun, healthy, and safe environment,and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. The work week may include early morning, late afternoon, weeknights, and occasional weekend events.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsibilities for this position are determined by school year and summer seasons; during the school year implementation and facilitation of before and after school programming and during the summer serves as onsite camp leadership for West Suburban or Elmbrook camp sites.Provides direct service for multiple offsite program activities that meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.Serves as a lead to Site Supervisors during the school year and may serve as a lead for camp counselors dependent on location of camp.Assists with training, developing, and evaluating staff performance as needed; assists with scheduling.In collaboration with leadership staff, maintain and monitor school age lesson plans and activities during the school year and camp related activities during the summer.Works cooperatively with the School District of Elmbrook and adheres to School Age program directives.Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.Maintains supplies for all program activities.Maintain accurate staff and child records at all times.Assists in facility usage for program activities and events.Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events including Annual Support Campaign.Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.Responsible for strict adherence to all Association policies and procedures as well as State of Wisconsin licensing rules. Conducts annual review of those policies and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned.Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Must be at least 21 years of age and have and have 240 hours of experience in an approved education setting.Must have completed high school or equivalent.Must meet all Child Care Licensing requirements including one of the following: an Associate's or Bachelor's degree (related field preferred); or otherwise qualified as a School-Age Director through The Wisconsin Registry.Minimum of 240 hours of related experience working with early childhood or school-aged children in an approved setting.Must be able and willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Mandated Reporter, Wisconsin Registry certification, and additional non-credit school-age coursework and/or coaching/mentoring (as needed).Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.Strong written and oral communication skills required.Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.Must have a current driver's license and be able to travel to multiple work sites during a workday.
