Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Leader, the PreOp/PACU nurse is responsible for implementing all physician orders, providing for the continuity and quality of nursing care for all patients, with continual evaluation of the patients condition, providing patient safety, comfort, and privacy at all times.

Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative departmentAssess the status of patients’ health in pre-op and ensure accuracy of identification wristbandEnsure that operative and informed consents are in orderDetermine the surgeon and procedure being carried outTake and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedureInitiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure and attending medical staff

Required Skills:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursingCurrent New Jersey Nursing LicenseCurrent BLS, ACLS and PALSMinimum of 2 years of experience in Pre-Op/PACU. Previous experience working in an ambulatory surgical setting preferred.Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patientUnderstand principles of aseptic technique and their implementationAbility to care for patients from infancy to geriatricsKnowledge base to recognize, evaluate, solve problems and correct errorsAbility to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when neededExcellent teaching skillsExcellent communication and organizational skillsDemonstrate strong professional and ethical behaviorAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians and fellow employees.Strong customer service skillsDemonstrate accountability, creativity, innovation and be receptive to changePossess basic knowledge of Performance Improvement ideology
