Mechanical / HVAC Estimator

Danboise Mechanical, Inc., or DMI, located in Farmington, Michigan, is a full-service mechanical contractor providing plumbing, HVAC and electrical services to commercial and industrial companies of all sizes.

We are in search of a highly experienced Mechanical / HVAC Estimator to join our team and play a vital role in securing new business opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have Hydronic Piping and Sheet metal experience along with a general understanding of Mechanical / HVAC system components.

This candidate will be responsible for leading the estimation process for all commercial and industrial projects.

If you are an individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality projects and possesses the skills and expertise we are looking for, join our team of professionals and help us continue to exceed our clients' expectations.Position Responsibilities:Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimatePrepare detailed MEP, HVAC, Sheetmetal & Hydronic Piping scopes of work and backup documentation for reviewSolicit project-specific proposals from subcontractors and suppliers and evaluate them for completeness and competitivenessDevelop options and recommend best value solution based on cost, engineering, quality or availability of materialsEstablish and maintain positive relationships and ethical practices with owners, consultants, engineers, subcontractors and suppliersAssist Operations with awarded contracts and projects as required. May include estimating/pricing change orders and facilitating resolution of any contractual issues

Track and assist operations with awarded contracts and projects as required

may include estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit, procuring materials, etc.Work with the Proposal Coordinator to develop complete professional proposals, including all required information (schedules, project narratives, organizational charts, etc.)Develop complete conceptual proposals to support business development and client maintenanceNegotiate and issue subcontractsCandidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project or other scheduling related systems and have experience working with On Screen Takeoff and/or MC2 type software is preferredCandidates must have a strong understanding of conceptual estimating, estimating techniques, and cost controlAbility to prepare proposals with minimum supervisionMust be comfortable working in teamsStrong written and verbal communication skills. Responsibilities and Duties

Review bid boards for projects that are out to bid and select those that align with current and projected workloads.Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct project site inspections to verify conditions affecting the pricing and installation of the project.Analyse project specifications, blueprints, and other technical documents to determine the projects scope of work and assess project risks.Understand project logistics and project schedule.Able to accurately identify, quantify and record all piping and ductwork sizes and quantities associated with the various mechanical systems.Able to develop detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and heavy equipment rentals.Review all bid documents and submit RFIs for clarifications during the bid process to ensure an accurate bid is submitted.Create strong relationships with vendors and leverage expertise to secure the best pricing for materials and equipment.Continuously monitor market trends and adjust estimating strategies accordingly.Analyse bid results to gain an understanding of the current market and to assist with future proposals.Attend handoff meetings with project team to communicate the unique aspects of the project to the project to the installation team.Prepare estimates for change order work for ongoing projects when requested.

Qualifications, Education, Experience and SkillsDegree in Mechanical Engineering, Technical/Design Education, or equivalent estimating and/or field experience.5-10 years of experience in Mechanical / HVAC estimating for commercial and industrial projects.Proficiency in Trimble Estimation valued, but not required.

We will provide training or this estimating platform as necessary.Proficient in MS Word and ExcelExperience in working as a Prime Mechanical Contractor is a plus.A multi-tasker who can handle the pressure of multiple bidding scenarios at one time.Able to work independently and in a team environment.Attention to detail is a MUST.
