The Landscaper, working under the direction and supervision of the Grounds Manager and Lead Groundskeeper, is responsible for the planting and upkeep of all grounds landscaping.
Pay rate starts at $16.00/hr and is commensurate with experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSFollows landscaping design for public areas and residencesPrepares soil for planting of grass, shrubs, flower, and treesLays sod, sows seed, and replants variety of plantsPrepares compost, fertilizes plants as requiredWaters plantsMows lawn, trims shrubs, prunes trees, and removes dead plantsClears roadways of encroaching weeds, debris, sand and trashMay pick up and dispose of trashRepairs irrigation pipes and valvesDigs and lines drainage ditches, culverts, and trenchesLays decorative and functional stone, brick, and rockKeeps work area clean; disposes of fertilizer appropriatelyServes as member of disaster and emergency response teams; fulfills assigned role in fire drills and for snow removalPerforms other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONSAbility to read and write proficiently and to follow verbal and written instructions; a minimum of one (1) year experience in landscaping work and operating landscaping equipment including snow removal equipment preferred; valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESAbility to maintain professional and cordial relationships with residents; dependable and capable of working well with minimal supervision; ability to sustain physical work including stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, and crawling for extended periods of time; ability to work overhead from ladders for sustained periods of time; ability to work full shifts outside exposed to all weather conditions; ability to regularly and safely lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
