Job SummaryThe Clinical Supervisor is responsible for administrative and clinical supervision of three clinical social workers, coordination of patient recruitment by handling referrals, providing biopsychosocial assessments, risk assessments, initial clinical engagement services, consultations and case assignment of referrals. In addition, the Supervisor carries a small caseload providing direct services to two or three patients.

The Clinical Supervisor coordinates training opportunities for social work internships and works closely with the Program Director on other program activities. This position also entails representing the program and patients served to multiple agencies along the Department of Public Health continuum of care. The Supervisor contributes to outcome studies and productivity reporting.

Department DescriptionFor over 25 years, the Emergency Department Case Management (EDCM) program has provided integrated treatment services including clinical case management, primary care, substance use disorder assessment and community care linkage. This has helped to engage and effectively treat high-users of multiple healthcare systems for better and lasting care. EDCM is part of the Division of Citywide Case Management programs at UCSF/ZSFG. The Division provides comprehensive outpatient treatment to those suffering from severe mental illness, often complicated by homelessness, chronic traumatization, institutionalization, substance use disorder and chronic medical conditions.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited University and minimum five years experience including three in a supervisory/lead role, or equivalent experience/training

Minimum of two years of clinical supervisory experience

Prior clinical experience working within a case management model in public health setting. Minimum of 3 years post-master's clinical experience working in a case management model of care.

Experience with adults with chronic mental health and substance abuse problems, frequent use of medical emergency or inpatient resources, and who are unhoused.

Experience working with dual diagnosis populations

Ability to work with people with severe and complex medical conditions, including but not limited to HIV seropositivity.

Demonstrated understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients

Demonstrated ability to further learn concepts and terminology pertinent to mental health, substance abuse, and medical services

Excellent documentation and clinical skills, ability to set priorities, work independently, excellent follow-up, work well under pressure and deadlines

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of psychiatric service operations and ability to apply concepts in an acute care setting.

Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant psychiatric health services internal policies and external regulations.

Demonstrated supervisory skills to guide behavioral health providers on treatment methods for serious mental health disorders.

Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and execute plans to meet deadlines.

Organizational skills for coordinating staff schedules and unit operations.

Working knowledge of human resources management practices and policies.

Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and EHR systems used in behavioral health clinics / clinical departments.

Ability to ensure patient care service standards are consistently met; assists staff with managing challenging patient interactions with sensitivity and skill.

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and be detailed oriented.

Has demonstrated excellent punctuality, reliable attendance, and responsible completion of tasks.

Successful background clearance: a preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Language capacity for mental health and other services - Spanish

License/Certification

Licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as LCSW, LMFT or LPCC with at minimum of 2 years post-licensure related work experience. In good standing with the BBS.
