Job Overview :
We are seeking a
Locum Specialty Trainee (ST1 or ST2) in Psychiatry
to join our dynamic mental health team . This is an exciting opportunity to work in a supportive and well-established team, gaining valuable experience in mental health services. The post will involve working across inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and community psychiatry, under the supervision of consultant psychiatrists.
Key Responsibilities :
Clinical Assessment : Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including history taking, mental state examinations, and risk assessments for patients with a range of psychiatric conditions.
Diagnosis & Treatment : Work closely with senior clinicians to provide accurate diagnoses and formulate appropriate treatment plans, including pharmacological and therapeutic interventions.
Inpatient & Outpatient Care : Deliver care in both inpatient psychiatric units and outpatient services, with opportunities to engage in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
Crisis Management : Assist in managing psychiatric emergencies such as acute psychosis, suicidal ideation, and severe mood disorders, ensuring patient safety and stabilization.
Collaborative Working : Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists, to deliver holistic care for patients.
Patient Documentation : Maintain thorough and accurate patient records, ensuring timely documentation in compliance with NHS standards and trust policies.
Education & Training : Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) activities, including attending teaching sessions, clinical supervision, and mandatory training programs provided by the trust.
On-call Duties : Participate in the on-call rota for the department, which may involve working evenings, weekends, or nights, depending on the needs of the trust.
Person Specification : Qualifications :
MBBS or equivalent medical degree : Essential
Full GMC (General Medical Council) registration : Essential
Completion of Foundation Year Training (FY1 & FY2) : Essential
Valid license to practice in the UK : Essential
Experience :
Previous experience in Psychiatry : Desirable but not mandatory for ST1. For ST2, at least
6-12 months of previous experience
in a psychiatry post is required.
Experience in dealing with common psychiatric conditions : Desirable (e.g., depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders).
Skills & Competencies :
Clinical Skills : Ability to assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric patients under supervision.
Teamwork : Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
Compassionate Care : Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to mental health patients.
Organisational Skills : Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain accurate medical records.
