Vice President of Human Resources (HR)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Vice President of Human Resources (HR) oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource department. The VP of HR oversees the administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs. The VP of HR carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, and employment. The VP of HR reports to the President and assists and advises company managers about Human Resources issues and performs other duties, as assigned.
GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Helps maintain a positive employee relations environment and supports the Company's Open Door policy
Oversees performance review process
Oversees and consults with Upper Management regarding promotions and raises for employees
Continually reviews and maintains employee handbook and other employee policies and procedures
Ensures employee HR-related questions and concerns are addressed in an appropriate and timely manner
Handles employee performance issues and terminations
Liaisons with employment attorney; Investigates/analyzes legal issues and processes in order to provide policy guidance and information to management and employees
Conducts investigations into employee allegations and makes recommendations based on findings
Designs, updates, and conducts HR-related trainings for employees (e.g., Harassment, Discipline/Termination Training, etc.)
Oversees, communicates and ensures compliance and understanding by employees of employee-related laws, regulations and organizational policies and procedures
Organizational & Performance Management
Recommends, develops and manages human resource databases, computer software systems, and digital filing systems
Oversees/Performs specific research/investigation into HR department operational issues, as requested
Facilitates company-wide committees
Participates in Quality Improvement Committee
Keeps management informed by reviewing and analyzing HR-related topics; summarizing information; identifying trends
Recommends, develops, and oversees employee performance improvement systems and incentive programs
Compensation and Benefit Administration
Consults and follows up with insurance representative on coverage and benefits
Makes recommendations for improvements and changes to compensation and benefits
Oversees medical and dental insurance, paid time off, and other benefits
Oversees annual open enrollment for medical and dental insurance
Oversees the COBRA process and ensures COBRA rates are updated
Oversees administration and explanation of benefits to employees, as well as the liaison interactions between the HR department and insurance broker and insurance carriers
Coordinates distribution of 401k plan documents to employees; processing related documents
Oversees 401k plan on-going and annual compliance and documentation
Other Duties
Oversees payroll and employee file maintenance process and staff members
Oversees worker’s compensation process, compliance, and staff membersOversees and manages leave of absence process and staff members
Oversees and manages HR department
Suggest improvements to existing systems and processes
Other duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related field
Master’s degree in Business Administration/Human Resources preferred
SPHR or PHR certification
Work Experience
10-15 years of progressive HR experience
At least 5 years of experience as an HR Director or above in a fast-paced environment
Experience in the full range of HR functional areas including, but not limited to, employee relations, organization development, compensation, benefits programs and other Human Resources programs
Experience managing all steps in the full life cycle of recruiting, hiring, disciplining and terminating employees
Experience in 401k management and compliance
Strong project management/organizational skills with strong attention to detail
Strong background in administering and facilitating HRIS systems and reporting
Strong emphasis on healthcare and workers compensation knowledge preferred
Strong experience working in a multi-site, hourly employee environment
Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge/Skills
Extensive knowledge of federal and state labor laws and regulations (in all states where Behavior Frontiers operates)
Extensive knowledge of 401k plans, audits and requirements
Extensive knowledge of workers compensation requirements and management
Extensive knowledge of leave of absence, accommodations and employee relations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Effective organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team skills
Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
Ability to inspire and manage staff
Commitment to excellence in customer service
Ability to create a positive, professional, and upbeat environment
Firm understanding and demonstration of the importance of maintaining confidentiality
