The Global Family Office Investment Advisory Team (GFO Advisory Team) within the Institutional OCIO Asset Management business, offers world-class investment management combined with program oversight, manager research, customized program design, global custody and client servicing. With approximately $140B AUM, the OCIO teams serve a global client base including: corporate pension and retirement plans, foundations, endowments, healthcare organizations and government, family office/multi-family office, not-for-profit and public funds.
After carefully defining a client's return objective and risk tolerance, the GFO Investment Advisory Team builds a customized, multi-manager investment program diversified across multiple asset classes, multiple managers and multiple styles. The result is a comprehensive investment program that increases the probability of achieving a client's investment objectives over the long-term, while seeking to minimize risk and volatility of returns over the short-term. The integrated suite of investment solutions includes: actuarial services, asset/liability studies, cash flow analysis, investment policy design, asset allocation, investment manager research and selection, program construction, program monitoring and evaluation, portfolio rebalancing, performance measurement, risk management, defined benefit and defined contribution plan management, trust and custody services, and credit services.
Role Summary:
A Client Investment Officer (CIO) is responsible for developing investment solutions (within a team framework) and servicing key relationships within the Global Family Office Group. In addition, he/she will be an important member of the leadership team supporting new business initiatives. As a member on the GFO Investment Advisory team, the successful candidate will ensure alignment with GFO and Asset Management strategic initiatives. The CIO will work alongside Senior CIOs as well as independently, managing high net worth family and/or family foundation clients with the creation, implementation, and oversight of complex, multi-asset class, multi-manager investment programs which includes discussing custom hedge and private solutions. Services range from investment policy and asset allocation through open architecture manager search, selection and oversight, portfolio construction, implementation and continuous improvement across traditional and alternative investment strategies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Providing clients with investment advisory services which includes developing an understanding of client's unique investment/service needs and coordinating the design, implementation and monitoring of a customized, open architecture, investment program across traditional and alternative investments to meet those needs.Communicate with clients and internal team members on a regular basis to proactively anticipate and respond to issues and developments, researching issues and opportunities, developing new ideas, and discussing investment capabilities.Coordination of asset allocation, rebalancing, manager search, portfolio construction and similar analytical exercises working closely with internal teams and team members.Coordination with dedicated internal manager research teams across traditional and alternative investments as part of sourcing and monitoring investment managers in and for client investment portfolios.Interpret economic, market and business information from Northern Trust and other organizations, in order to recognize, understand and communicate market environment.Assist in new product development and marketing. Work with product, research, and marketing to develop and identify new investment ideas or opportunities.Proactively participate in prospective family office sales and marketing presentations.Cross sell or refer company products and services to existing clients, when appropriate.Proactively advise partners of issues that may affect clients/prospects in either a positive or negative way.Display a high level of teamwork toward achieving business unit and team goals. Be a positive influence in the group.Be prepared to author/co-author white papers/thought pieces for GFO client and prospect consumption.Necessary Qualifications and Experience:
Self starter - able to work independently as well as within a team structure.7-10 years of investment expertise including experience with open architecture, alternative investments and ultra-high net worth individuals/families.Seasoned investment advisor working with or for a family office/multi-family office, endowment/foundation or institutional investment consultant.Ideal recent experience as CIO, head of an asset class or institutional investment consultant.Demonstrable knowledge regarding traditional and alternative investments in an open-architecture framework, as well as related issues that affect investments (economy, markets, finance).Proven success developing and delivering integrated investment advisory services to sophisticated clients.Ability to communicate complex investment solutions to a variety of constituents with varying levels of investment knowledge.Technology orientation and proficiency is required to coordinate analysis of client portfolios and recommendations for improvements.Written and interpersonal presentation skills are important for ongoing client interaction, team engagement and new business participation.MBA/CFA/CAIA/CIMA/CPA or other relevant investment credentials preferred.
