CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (CDOT)CONSTRUCTION COMPLIANCENumber of Positions: 1Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on Thursday, October 17, 2024.The Assistant Project Director supervises CDOT field inspections including Field Service Specialist (FSS) II, FSS III, and Field Supervisor (FS) positions. The Assistant Project Director will determine an inspection strategy and monitor the staff’s performance. The Assistant Project Director must have a robust understanding of applicable Municipal Code of Chicago (MCC) requirements and CDOT Policy. This role ensures the public way inspection unit implements senior management’s policies and may also involve staffing the Permit Office with responsibilities that include reviewing permits for compliance with CDOT Rules and MCC requirements, assigning work to staff, attending meetings, liaising with public way stakeholders, and researching right of way issues to determine how to resolve those issues.ESSENTIAL DUTIESMonitors the performance and ongoing development and training of Program staff and conducts performance evaluations of supervisory staff.Develops the Program’s work objectives, quality standards and performance measures, working with program supervisors to monitor productivity and adhere to established standards.Serves as a liaison between other City departments, outside agencies and the public.Maintains, monitors, and suggests improvements for data systems.Manages and directs special projects and initiatives.Establishes work priorities for public way inspectors in each district.Provides guidance to public way inspectors on correct interpretation of the City’s Municipal Code and Rules and Regulations for working in the Public Way.Identifies and researches specific problems and areas of opportunities and concerns and makes recommendations necessary to ensure program and operational efficiency.Conducts field inspections.Reviews, schedules, and conducts inspections based on permit requirements, 811 Chicago dig and hit tickets, 311 requests, OUC plans, PRAs, MOUs, and complaints from stakeholders and superiors.Completes performance appraisals of staff and initiates and administers corrective or disciplinary action as necessary.Researches right of way issues using data systems and criteria.Reviews permit applications to ensure they comply with applicable criteria including CDOT Rules and Regulations, policies, and Municipal Code of Chicago §§ 7-28, 10-20, 10-28.Reviews drawings and plans to ensure the right of way will not be adversely affected by construction.Monitors permit fees to ensure they are applied correctly and collected in a timely manner.Additional duties may be required for this position.THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE.Qualifications:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Planning or a directly related field supplemented by five years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design and construction of transportation projects including two years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Disclaimer:
