The California Public Utilities Commission is the State's lead agency working to increase the amount of clean and renewable energy in California. The Renewables Procurement Section is in search of dynamic, creative team members to assist in implementing critical statewide programs, such as the California Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) program. Established in 2002, the RPS program seeks to reduce fossil fuel consumption, air pollution, and greenhouse gases associated with electricity generation. Under supervision of the Project and Program Supervisor, the engineer will advise and assist high-level decision-makers such as Commissioners, Judges, and Energy Division management. The engineer may act as a team leader and project coordinator on renewable energy analysis projects, which may include policy and technical analysis, as well as data management, modeling, and visualization. The engineer will make recommendations based on independent analysis of regulatory, policy and technical issues. The engineer will also develop analysis and make recommendations regarding the CPUC's policy-setting rulemakings via a wide range of work products, review and provide feedback on proposed legislative bills, and/or oversee implementation of programs that result from these CPUC and legislative processes.

The engineer will perform other work as necessary, such as writing and presenting reports, coordinating with other California organizations and agencies (e.g., the California Energy Commission, the California Air Resources Board, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, U.S. Forest Service, California Independent System Operator), and responding to outside inquiries.

This position is advertised as Limited-term for 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or may become permanent. This position requires travel.

Positions at the CPUC may be eligible for telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, and subject to meeting the telework eligibility criteria.
