At Houston Methodist, the Chief Donor Relations and Stewardship Officer (CDRSO) position is responsible for the design, implementation and management of all policies, procedures and activities of the functions listed under the primary job responsibilities. Utilizing best practices and the latest technology, the CDRSO will build and operate a sophisticated donor relations and stewardship operation. The CDRSO will lead and direct a large team of professionals to carry out these functions. The CDRSO will also participate as a leader in the design and implementation of Houston Methodist's largest comprehensive campaign.

The CDRSO reports to the President & CEO of the Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation and is a member of the Foundation's Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The CDRSO leads the communications, stewardship, events, donor recognition and physician/faculty engagement teams.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead and direct a team of professionals in the areas of communications, stewardship, events, donor recognition and physician/faculty engagement.Develop policies and design best practices that govern all areas of the donor relations and stewardship functions including, but not limited to, donor recognition, giving levels and societies, endowment management, campaign communications, event standards, etc.Serve as a member of the Foundation's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and provide meaningful contributions and vision for the overall direction of the Foundation.Engage and manage volunteer committees as necessary.Serve as an internal leader to carry out a comprehensive campaign.

The CDRSO position responsibilities include overseeing the activities of the department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence, and efficiency to accomplish strategic and operational objectives. In addition, this position is accountable for employee engagement, adequate staffing levels, budget development, compliance, and staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment, coaching and counseling employees on work-related performance, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment. This position also ensures training, monitoring, and operations initiatives are implemented which secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/government regulations.

Directs, develops, and implements strategic and operational/high-level projects and processes either through independent/highly autonomous work or through the facilitation of work teams to enable the effective and efficient completion of objectives.Oversees management of and ensures development for staff to meet overall objectives in terms of quality, service, and cost-effectiveness.Meets or exceeds threshold goal for department turnover and/or system metrics on employee engagement indicators.Provides leadership and communication to maintain a competent and engaged employee group.Identifies opportunities and takes action to build strategic relationships between one's area and other areas, teams, departments, and units to achieve business goals.

Service Essential Functions

Oversees department operations, designated projects, schedules, and activities as needed to ensure that goals or objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame.Drives department service standards and activities to impact department and/or system score for patient/customer-based satisfaction.Engage and oversee volunteer committees as needed.Serve as an internal leader to carry out a comprehensive campaign as assigned.

Quality/Safety Essential Functions

Ensures a safe and effective working environment; monitors and/or revises the department safety plan and/or any specific accreditation/regulatory required safety guidelines.Employs a proactive approach in the optimization of safe outcomes and information systems.Responsible for employee compliance to policies and procedures.

Finance Essential Functions

Develops and manages department operational and capital budgets, approvals, and ongoing maintenance of the department(s).Creates department strategies to achieve financial targets and staffing needs.

Growth/Innovation Essential Functions

Identifies and implements innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes.Drives change initiatives, maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment.Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management.

Education

Bachelor's degreeMaster's degree preferred

Work Experience

Ten years experience in donor relations, to include five years experience leading teams.Experience in an academic medical center or large university setting preferred.
