POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President of Development & Communications reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with her/him and the Board of Directors to lead all aspects of fundraising and communications for the organization. This individual is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all organizational communications and fundraising activities including our major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events, grant writing, capital campaigns, and other related activities. This person is responsible for the overall identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals, foundations, corporations, and grants. Includes robust bonus and retention opportunity structure. The position is based in Tulsa, OK and will require donor cultivation throughout the region.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

Leadership/Management

Work daily to advocate for the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Tulsa SPCA.

Manage development staff and operations and create an efficient and secure working environment.

Serve as a member of the leadership team and work with the Executive Director and other peers to provide input, suggestions, and recommendations and ensure Tulsa SPCA staff get timely updates on development activities.

Prepare, submit, manage, and monitor the development department budget and assist in developing the annual department and organizational contributed revenue budget.

Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.

Development Strategy/Fundraising

Responsible for the creation, development, and implementation of the Tulsa SPCA’s annual development plan, goals, metrics, and strategy focusing on the annual fund, direct mail, major gifts, bequests, planned giving, capital campaigns, public, corporate, and foundation support.

Track and report results of fundraising efforts to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Provide staff support for volunteer fundraising committees for special events or campaigns.

Manage a portfolio of current donors with revenue goals and contact metrics with a focus on reaching goals for retention and giving.

Successfully identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects at all giving levels.

Manage the grants program, including identification, solicitation, reporting, and stewardship as well as updating the grants calendar to ensure the accurate and successful submission of grant proposals.

Responsible for the overall management of the fundraising database, managing maintenance, confidentiality, accuracy, and timely entry of donor records to ensure long-term organizational knowledge.

Responsible for the organization and management of two to three major donor events and multiple smaller donor events (including external community and donor events) throughout the year; soliciting sponsors, recruiting attendees and/or teams, and meeting revenue goals.

Communications

Develop an overall communications plan with strategic marketing, public relations, and fundraising messaging opportunities to tell the story of the Tulsa SPCA to a number of different audiences.

Management of the development of promotional materials, signage, media relationships, social media strategy appeals, fundraising materials, and other initiatives throughout the year to ensure constituents receive consistent organizational messaging.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience.

Demonstrated experience in communications, leadership, management, and event planning.

Organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage a high volume of work, prioritize effectively to meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.

Ability to supervise staff and build a strong, collaborative team.

Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Experience in Raiser’s Edge and capital campaigns is highly desired, but not a requirement.

Experience and knowledge with Windows-based PCs and Microsoft Office Suite.

Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.

Availability to work varied and extended hours as required.

Respect and passion for animals and the people who care for them.

Physical Demands

Office setting when not working offsite/onsite events or assisting with special projects.

Exposure to odors, wet, humid, and dusty conditions, airborne particles, fur, hair, animal waste, and various cleaning chemicals and supplies.

May be exposed to sick, injured, and aggressive animals.

Ability to bend, walk, reach, push, pull, and sit for extended periods.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to hear, talk, and use hand dexterity, specific vision abilities required to include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

SCHEDULE

FT position. Schedule can vary; shift changes will be necessary sometimes, as will work on holidays and weekends.
