What are we looking for?

The Special Inspector is responsible for performing field inspections and construction materials testing as needed to ensure conformance with construction plans and specifications. The inspector is also responsible for preparing inspection daily reports and testing data sheets.

Job Title: Special Inspector - Construction

Location: Columbia, SC

What you'll do:Performs a variety of testing, project-specific observations, and inspection duties under general supervision.Operates testing equipment and conducts testing, (example: Soil, concrete, or other) and provides an assessment of data through reportingWorks utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagramsUses specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasksReads and Interprets Plans and SpecificationsMaintains and calibrates standard equipmentPerforms complex assignmentsAttends project meetingsMakes detailed observations and gives the interpretation of resultsMaintains detailed documentation and data from test resultsOperates a calculator to calculate mathematical test resultsCommunicates effectively with client and project teamsMust be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at workWhat it takes to be successful in this role:

5+ years of special inspection and/or construction materials testing experience is

requiredACI Concrete I Certification

requiredAPNGA Nuclear Gauge Safety Class Certification

requiredOne or more of the following ICC Certifications

required, with the associated SCLLR License:

ICC Reinforcing Steel inspectorICC Reinforced Concrete Masonry InspectorICC Soil InspectorPTI Certified Post-Tension Inspector Level 1 & 2

External (or task related) certifications may be required based on region and state.Must have Basic Math, Calculator and Computer SkillsAbility to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communicationMust be able to read and understand work plansMust be able to work off shifts and overtimeValid Driver's License and reliable driving record (required)Must be able to work off shift and overtime as neededPhysical Requirements:

Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds if needed. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistanceAbility to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in soundAbility to kneel and squat occasionallyAbility to walk and stand for long periods of timeAbility to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)Ability to climb occasionallyPreferred Requirements and Qualifications:
