Calling all Senior Nursing Students, Nurse Graduates and new RN's, it is time to apply for our

Summer 2025 Nurse Residency:

Postpartum Track!

The ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is accredited with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is recognized by the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP) as an Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Programs (IRAP).

The Postpartum program is for new RNs who desire to work within Maternal/Child nursing.

Postpartum nurses have the unique ability to influence and educate families in a positive manner. They enable the family to start forming as a cohesive unit in order to confidently care for their baby. Upon completion of this program, resident nurses will have the knowledge and ability to skillfully assess new babies and mothers as well as provide extensive care and education to the family.

The Postpartum (Mother/Baby) Residency is for new RNs and those with less than 12 month’s experience who desire to work within Maternal/Child nursing. Postpartum nurses care for both the mother and the newborn simultaneously, ensuring that the mother is stable, and the newborn is transitioning safely to extrauterine life. They provide extensive education to the family on newborn care and development as well as important after-birth care education for the mother.

The Postpartum Unit also has a Continuing Care Nursery where newborns exposed to substance use disorder are cared for after the mother has been discharged. These newborns require extensive monitoring and possibly medication to allow them to transition through the withdrawal period.

The Postpartum nurse residency is a demanding 24-week preceptor led clinical training program on the Postpartum floors, complemented with educational workshops specific to Postpartum nursing, emphasizing both the mother and the newborn. Orientation also includes the Continuing Care Nursery and the specific knowledge and skill required to successfully care for NOWS newborns. The program is followed by continued residency meetings during months 8, 10, and 12 to further develop as professional nurses and integral members of our caregiver team.

Upon successful

program completion,

participants will be hired as a staff nurse within

the Postpartum area at ChristianaCare health system.

Nurse residents are required to pass State Boards and be licensed as a RN in the State of Delaware prior to starting position.

Upon hire, a commitment agreement to work at the ChristianaCare will be signed. The agreement requires completion of two years within ChristianaCare and 15 months of those two years on the unit of hire. Individuals unable to fill this commitment will be charged $10,000.
