Pay Rate: $130,000 - $145,000/year*

Reports to: Vice President, Government & Community Affairs

Compensation rates vary based on job-related factors, including experience, job skills, education, and training.

The Director will conceive, organize, and direct a wide range of projects for the External Affairs and Community Relations department, including oversight of government, neighborhood, and community relations programs. The Director will develop and enhance initiatives that support the Los Angeles Dodgers’ position in the community and with government entities. The job requires collaboration with internal departments and key external stakeholders to integrate legislative priorities and social responsibility considerations into core decision-making and planning. The Director will cultivate and maintain relationships with government at the local, state, and federal level, associated authorities, business groups, the community, numerous internal departments, and various other external entities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Government Affairs

Lead the Dodgers’ efforts on public policy initiatives and interactions with public officials and their staff.

Provide early identification of legislation, initiatives, programs, and issues that may affect the business operations and public policy goals of the Dodgers.

Lead and direct transportation planning efforts and initiatives with internal stakeholders, Metro, and the LA Department of Transportation.

Direct efforts to expand the use of Dodger Stadium for civic engagements including Voting Center, COVID test site/vaccine site or other related community service initiatives.

Direct non-baseball events in a manner that supports other baseball initiatives and builds support within the community and government.

Monitor all health and safety-related legislation and updates or other governmental directives.

Develop internal strategies and policies for political campaign contributions and direct Dodgers involvement as appropriate.

Manage, track and process political campaign contributions.

Prepare budgets, cash-flows, invoices, and related spreadsheets for the department.

Oversee department hiring and management of staff, including interns and fellows.

Neighborhood Relations

Direct Dodger efforts to engage the community in a manner that results in support of initiatives and programs supported by the Dodgers.

Serve as the liaison between the Dodgers’ front office and residents, community-based organizations, business groups, and numerous other external stakeholders.

Represent the Dodgers’ organization at neighborhood committee meetings throughout the year.

Develop and enhance the initiatives that support the Dodgers’ position in the community in partnership with players, sponsors, and Major League Baseball.

Manage the team responsible for community relations events and activities.

Business Development

Manage permitting process for City/County approvals for special projects and events.

Work across internal departments to develop legislative strategies for Dodgers’ operational and corporate social responsibility initiatives and projects.

Develop strategies, programs and activations that generate revenue for the sponsorship and ticket sales teams.

Compose and edit a broad range of written materials, including Community Report, press releases, speeches and talking points for Dodgers executives, staff, and coaches.

Basic Requirements/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years previous experience in government and community relations, private sector, or non-profit field preferred.

Proven track record working successfully in community marginalized groups.

Ability to display independent judgement and evaluate new approaches to problem solving.

Experience in creating and implementing training programs for the team and other partners.

Ability to manage multiple projects and create a spirit of collaboration.

Goal oriented, self-starter with strong work ethic.

Work experience in crisis communication.

Demonstrate innovative thinking/spirit.

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to interact and work with leadership, players, and staff.

Ability to develop relationships with internal and external customers.

Spanish or other language skills beyond English is a plus.

Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
