Your Opportunity
Stantec's New England Transportation group is seeking a highly qualified Design Manager specializing in shared use path, trail and complete streets design with a minimum of 10-15 years of experience. This position is for an individual looking to manage multiple projects, lead technical design teams, coach and mentor junior engineers, build and maintain client relationships, and effectively represent Stantec at industry conferences, client meetings, and public events.
We are looking for a Design Manager who is passionate about designing shared use paths, trails and complete streets that provide a wide range of community benefits. Use your creative abilities to propose ways to transform railroad corridors, enhance multimodal connections, prioritize equity and accessibility, and help us keep Massachusetts at the top of the nation’s most Bicycle Friendly States! This position is flexible between our Burlington MA office and remote work.
Your Key Responsibilities
As a Design Manager, you will have the opportunity to pursue, lead, and work on a variety of shared use path and trail projects throughout Massachusetts. The selected candidate must be able to motivate and inspire teams to work together to achieve the goals of each project and organize the teams' efforts to consistently deliver designs on schedule. You will interact internally throughout the organization externally with clients, residents, business owners, and other firms. Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals.
Establish project objectives, procedures and performance standards and leading interdisciplinary teams on proposals, studies, concept through final designs, and construction phase services.
Identify appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project objectives as well as managing contract terms, tracking and managing costs and schedule, and implementing measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Self-starter with proactive, get it done attitude.
Strong oral and written communication skills in both office and virtual environments.
Demonstrated successful experience identifying, evaluating, and solving complex issues along shared use path and trail corridors.
Growth-oriented mindset with a strong desire to stay knowledgeable on trends and best practices.
Strong knowledge of AASHTO and MassDOT design standards, NACTO, APBP and other complete streets and active transportation design guidance.
Knowledge of complete streets funding programs and other related funding programs/sources for multimodal transportation improvements.
Education and Experience
Bachelor or Master degree in Civil Engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Massachusetts.
Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience in project management, preferably for shared use path/trail and Complete Streets projects for municipal and agency clients.
Position will primarily work in an office or virtual setting; may require some field work.
