Summary
The Lead, Total Rewards is an experienced professional responsible for overseeing the administration and continuous improvement of compensation, benefits, and leave programs. Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, this role partners with HR, business leaders, and external vendors to ensure that total rewards programs align with SHRM's business strategy and financial goals. A key aspect of this role is leveraging HRIS and related systems to drive operational efficiency, ensure data integrity, and enhance the employee experience. The Lead, Total Rewards will stay abreast of industry trends and lead initiatives to maintain SHRM’s competitive position in the market for global talent.
Responsibilities
Compensation & Benefits Administration: Administer SHRM’s global compensation and benefits programs to align with organizational goals, ensuring competitive positioning in the market and operational excellence.HRIS & Systems Management: Manage and optimize HRIS for compensation and benefits programs, ensuring the system is accurately configured to support complex compensation structures and benefit plans.Designs, develops, and communicates data-driven insights and recommendations using dashboards and visualizations that tell the story of our workforce.Leverage HRIS to generate insightful analytics and reporting that supports decision-making around compensation, benefits, and incentive programs.Market Benchmarking & Analysis: Lead benchmarking initiatives to ensure SHRM’s compensation and benefits offerings remain competitive, participating in surveys and using HRIS to automate the analysis of market data for accurate and informed decision-making.Job Design & Compensation Structure: Partner with leaders on job design, analysis, and job description development, ensuring alignment with job leveling and compensation structures. Use HRIS to support job leveling decisions and maintain records.Sales Incentive Administration: Administer quarterly sales incentives using approved plans, ensuring accurate payouts through HRIS and benefits systems.Compliance & Audit Support: Oversee HR compliance for total rewards, including leading audits related to compensation, benefits, and HRIS data. Ensure regulatory reporting requirements are met through accurate HRIS data management.Vendor Management & Escalations: Serve as the primary contact for third-party vendors related to benefits and compensation, managing escalations and ensuring service delivery meets organizational standards.Retirement Plan Administration: Oversee retirement benefits through plan administrators, ensuring compliance, fiduciary oversight, and coordination with HRIS for plan changes and updates.Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead or participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving the total rewards experience for SHRM employees, driving the use of technology and systems to streamline processes and enhance service delivery.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Human Resources, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience in Compensation and Benefits Administration.5-7 years of experience in compensation and benefits, with significant experience in leveraging HRIS for program administration.Experience with HRIS systems (Workday, ADP, or similar) required, including system optimization and data analysis capabilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong proficiency in HRIS systems for compensation, benefits administration, and data analysis.Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret large datasets and generate actionable insights.Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.Strategic mindset with the ability to balance both operational execution and long-term planning.Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex total rewards concepts to diverse audiences.

Work is primarily conducted in an office setting, using standard office equipment, with occasional travel for meetings or conferences.
The hiring range for this position is $90,000 to $115,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
