Overview

This is a non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Research Operations. This position is considered hybrid and is eligible for 1 remote work day per week. This position is responsible for sponsored research compliance and related communications for the department. A successful candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to multitask. Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action and have the ability to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

50% Compliance Administration SupportIRB/IACUC* Works with researchers, Chairperson(s), committee members, and other University offices to ensure the rights and welfare of participants in human and animal research activities conducted by the University's faculty, staff, and students* Assists researchers in adhering to requirements, federal and state regulations, state law, University policies, and the ethical principles that apply to both human subjects and animal research projects* Investigates and resolves issues of noncompliance* Supports the Chairperson(s) and other members by providing professional analytical and technical assistance while interacting closely with researchers from the University* Responsible for conducting pre-review of moderately complex submissions to the designated research compliance area (human subject/ laboratory animals/ biologically infectious agent regulations) of new protocols, continuing reviews, and modifications to approved studies to ensure completeness and compliance* Responsible for pre-review of unanticipated problems involving risks to subjects or others and requests to close studies* Develop training materials tailored to faculty and students to aid in their understanding and compliance of this requirement; be available to meet with faculty, staff and students as needed* Use PeopleSoft and payroll distribution lists to review once per semester all NSF awards that include RCR requirement. Use CITI training and/or track all employees (faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students) paid from NSF award to ensure they have taken the RCR training module as well as other similar requirements for federal and/or state awards.50% Operational Responsibilities* Interpret and/or serve as point person to sponsor with inquiries related to terms and conditions* Work closely with Research Administration Advisors and Research Accountants to ensure close out of project and contracts within 90 days after the period of performance end date* Review new employees NOAs and project setups for completeness and accuracy until employee achieves a 90% efficiency rate* Conduct monthly audits of payroll charged to Federal awards to ensure compliance* Work closely with the Director of Research Operations to ensure annual Conflict of Interest (COI) forms are complete. Assist with Conflict of Management Plans (CMP) as needed.* Work closely with the Director of Research Operation to review, evaluate and monitor sponsored activities that include Export Control restrictions. This includes working with faculty and OIT to develop, assess, and monitor Technology Control Plans (TCP) as needed* Complete annual Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency ACT (FAFATA) Reporting* Complete After the Fact Activity Reports (ATFAR) for faculty 2 times annually within 90 days of reporting period* Assist with Subaward/Subcontract review/management including but not limited to Subrecipient monitoring and contract amendments* Work with Preaward staff to assist with the completion of incoming and outgoing subrecipient certification forms and other compliance documentation as needed* Assist with independent Uniform Guidance audit as well as sponsor initiated audits.* Other significant responsibilities may include review of work processes, correspondences, surveys, and conducting quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimal Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, law and/or a technical field with 3 years of higher education experience with related responsibilities
