The pediatric ambulatory RN is an integral member of the patients healthcare team and is responsible for performing outpatient care for patients in primary care and specialty care clinics. The pediatric ambulatory RN is responsible for coordinating and managing care for pediatric/ adolescent clinic patients inclusive of preventative care, newly diagnosed and established care for patients with chronic disease in the clinic setting; is up-to-date on current ambulatory therapies and research; promotes self-management skills and provides collaborative and comprehensive care that optimizes the patients management of their health and illness; practice is in compliance with hospital policy, procedures and protocols and in accordance with the providers plan of care; acts and serves as a patient and family advocate; establishes trust and builds therapeutically effective relationships with the patients and families.

Position Summary

The registered nurse, adheres to the rules and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum. The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and in accordance with established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and standards of practice.

Education

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred), Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required

Registration and current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing required or ability to obtain reciprocity license prior to start.Requires current basic life support (BLS) certification.PALS / ACLS certification, preferredAdditional certifications may be required for certain practice areas

Knowledge And Skills

Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enters, and interpret computerized data/information.Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various members of the health care team, patients, and families.Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the medical center preferred.Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification required for certain practice areasAnalytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects.Ability to effectively delegate appropriate patient care activities.Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the patient populations served.Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served.Ability to effectively manage stress due to critical issues related to patient care, changing organizational climate and personnel issues

Qualifications

3-5 years inpatient pediatric experience1-2 years experience in ambulatory clinic/ outpatient or diagnostic testing settingPIV care and management for pediatric and adult population (if applicable to role)Knowledge of population health and relevance to practiceExperience with care coordination and transitions of care as related to ambulatory practiceExperience in Telephone Triage of symptomatic patientsKnowledge of childhood/adult immunizationKnowledge of DME, VNA, PA and school formsEqual Opportunity Employer/Disabled/Veterans
