The Speech and Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech and Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the Cooperative and School District.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students.Establishes a positive learning environment and responds to the individual needs of students.Ensures that all activities conform to District and Cooperative guidelinesCommunicates effectively with all members of the School District, Cooperative and the community.Works effectively with community organizationsAppropriately operates all equipment as requiredReacts to changes in a professional and productive manner and completes other tasks as assignedSupports the value of an educationSupports the philosophy and vision of the School District and the CooperativeSupervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.Assists in the early recognition and prevention of educational problemsMonitors student progress and makes informed, timely educational decisionsConducts speech, language and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical servicesParticipates as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review and re-evaluation processParticipates in the development of student IEPs.Adheres to required program guidelines as defined by the School District of the City of York's plan for Special EducationConsults with teachers, administrators, parents and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are availableAssist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategiesRefers students and their families to appropriate community agencies and servicesCooperates with agencies serving students and familiesProvides therapy, follow-up and/or consultation based on student's IEPs.Motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedbackDemonstrates awareness of the needs of students and provides for individual differencesSets high expectations for student achievement and behaviorDemonstrates effective and professional interpersonal relationships with othersEstablishes and maintains a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom managementPlan and implement transitional programs for studentsAssists students in developing feelings of self-worth and in making social adjustments that permit them to cope with disabilitiesMaintain appropriate confidential records and provide timely reportsOrders and maintains an adequate inventory of materials and suppliesTrain staff members as assignedAssists with public awareness activities that lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional childrenStays abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques in the speech and language pathology professionEnsures that School District policies and that of the Cooperative are observed during all activitiesObtains advance approval for all special activities and expendituresAdheres to all District and Cooperative health and safety policiesOther duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $57,004.00 - $98,288.00 per year
