What’s the Job?

RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984-acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and one marine berth. At full capacity, the five-train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tons per annum (MTPA).

Position Summary

• Senior Piping Designer responsible for assigned activities within the Plant Design & Piping design discipline in the Energy global business unit. Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and deliverables. Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project. Represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions.

Responsibilities

• Directly performs or administers work of designers and drafters of a design group for a business line technology. This work includes the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings. Very familiar with Hexagon S3D software.

• Consults with equipment suppliers, technical specialists and client representatives as directed to provide and receive technical information.

• Establishes and maintains communication with design and engineering supervisors in charge of related disciplines and with administrative personnel within the group or project.

• Plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of design on a project.

• Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.

• Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from a senior Supervising Designer, an Engineering Supervisor, or a Layout Supervisor.

• Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy.

• Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.

• Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.

• Reviews or defines engineering scope changes, as required, for project management.

• Endorses or prepares reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use.

• Maintains Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) relevant to design work and ensures that maximum use is made thereof.

• Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

• Supports development of work plans and schedules for the assigned work including estimate of material quantities, design deliverables and staffing needs to meet the project milestones.

• Participates in the operations of a small or medium size design group. Work closely with other disciplines to coordinate work.

• Requires a broad knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, drawing checking, graphic arts, 2-D and 3-D CAD, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the discipline. (e.g. SmartSketch drawings, etc.)

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

• Associate or B. Sc in Drafting/Engineering is preferred but not required and minimum 10+ years experience working plant layout in 3D model (e.g. S3D).

• Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the disciplines design responsibilities.

• Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria and codes relevant to the discipline.

• Knowledge of discipline Design Guides, mathematical formulae and design calculations used in the discipline.

• Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.

• Experience working on layout in LNG plants, ECU units, Hydrogen, Methanol plants or/and carbon capture.

• The above is normally acquired through:

• Specialized courses in drafting, design and engineering practices, and CAD, OR

• A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, AND

• Extensive experience in design and drafting.

Additional Qualifications

• Specific experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments:

• Natural gas processing including liquefaction and regasification.

• Coal, gas or biomass to chemicals such as methanol and ammonia

• Petrochemicals such as HDPE, LDPE, MEG, PET, PTA, PVC and others

• Carbon capture and sequestration

• Solar and/or combined cycle power plants

• Hydrogen value chain including reforming, liquefaction, transportation and fueling stations.

• Offshore and onshore pipelines

• Desalination, raw water, demineralized water and wastewater treatment plants

• Familiarity with current process technologies and licensors associated with the abov
