Primary Care (PC) Physician with a dual academic appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The position reports directly to the Chief of Primary Care and works as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team that collaborates with other members of the team to provide Primary Care to Veterans. The Medical Center consists of one main campus and ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). It’s a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The facility provides comprehensive care to over 47,000 Veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. The medical center is located in the metropolitan area of Memphis, TN, on the bluffs of the Mighty Mississippi River. It’s the hub of the United States and is known as the birthplace of Blues, Rock & Roll, and low & slow cooked barbecue. It’s also home to the infamous Grizzlies NBA Team! Duties include but are not limited to: Expected to demonstrate advanced competencies and skills in assessing the physical and psychosocial status of patients and family members. Play an active role in the multi-disciplinary health care team by promoting preventive health measures and managing acute and chronic conditions. Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, health history, physical examinations, and patient education to Veterans for both scheduled and unscheduled visits. Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings to establish a diagnosis and initiate appropriate health plans. Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations to other clinical services. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests as appropriate and recommend treatment and/or referral. Validate the effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatment. Initiate, evaluate, and change orders for medications. Include patient, family, and caregivers in planning care and establishing realistic measurable goals for health maintenance/improvement. Record/document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, ongoing management and the therapeutic outcomes, medication orders, diagnostic tests, referral consultations, accomplishing all using the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS) daily. Minimum Requirements: BE/EC in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at UTHSC Full and unrestricted license from ANY state US Citizenship Be proficient in the written and spoken use of the English language
