Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly motivated and skilled Overlay Designer to join the Mesh team. The Overlay Designer will be responsible for the production, design, and oversight of large-scale sporting events. This role is production-focused, with responsibilities centered on creating innovative workflows and solving technological challenges while supporting design deliverables for large-scale events. Examples of events include The College Football Playoff National Championship, the PGA Championships, and the Kentucky Derby.
The role of the Overlay Designer is to actively participate, manage and engage various clients in all aspects of design and implementation of their events. The designer will understand the needs of multiple constituent groups to develop plans that facilitate the smooth execution of the event. The ideal candidate will leverage expertise in Civil3D, Revit, and various 3D modeling software to create accurate, realistic, and efficient designs that enhance event deliverables. The candidate will also be responsible for the construction administration of the event and will need to provide clear direction for multiple vendors/ contractors. Clear communication and problem solving in the field are essential.
The job is based in Raleigh, NC and preference would be given to a local candidate. However, exceptions can be made for qualified individuals who wish to work remotely.
Responsibilities :
- Production Design and Drafting : Use advanced production workflows in Civil3D, Revit, Dynamo, SketchUp, and related 3D modeling and visualization tools (such as Vectorworks, Lumion, TwinMotion) to generate precise overlay plans, CAD drawings, and 3D renderings that support event requirements and client expectations. Establish templates and workflows to facilitate production efficiency.
- Event Site Planning and Coordination : Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to understand spatial needs and logistical constraints, ensuring the design supports smooth on-site execution of events.
- Compliance and Standards : Execute designs that comply with local codes, ordinances, and applicable standards to ensure accuracy and safety
- Construction and Production Support : Provide detailed instructions and collaborate with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to coordinate all production aspects of event overlay installation, applying on-site problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges as they arise.
- Field Operations : Utilize GPS survey equipment for on-site layout verification, ensuring design accuracy and efficient production alignment.
- Budget and Timeline Management : Work within established budgets and timelines, providing production insights to optimize resources without compromising design integrity.
- Communication and Problem-Solving : Clearly communicate production requirements to field teams and stakeholders, offering prompt, effective solutions to any issues that arise during the event installation.
- Education : Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience : At least 2 years of experience within event overlay design, architectural design, landscape architectural design, or a related field.
- Technical Skills : High-level proficiency in Civil3D, Revit, Dynamo, SketchUp, Vectorworks, Adobe Creative Suite, Lumion, and TwinMotion. Strong familiarity with GPS survey equipment.
- Soft Skills : Detail-oriented, excellent communication, collaboration, and field problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Travel and Flexibility : Willingness to travel to event sites, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as event oversight requires.
- Job Location : We are based in Raleigh, NC and would prefer a candidate to live in the area. However, exceptions can be made for qualified for individuals who wish to work remotely from home.
- Other Requirements : Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
